Yijun Qian's Initial Blog Post

Background Relevant to Intelligent Building:
·                     This class will be my first exposure to intelligent building. But during my freshmen design, our team designed a automatic curtain which controlled by light and temperature, so I had a chance to get touch with the light sensor and temperature sensor.

Expectations for the Class:
·                     I expect to learn basic knowledge about intelligent building, I hope I could a brief introduction about intelligent building after this class.

Initial Definition of "Intelligent Building:"
·                     My initial definition for intelligent building would be a building could manage it own energy, has functions such as ‘self-repairing’ and ‘self-adjusting’. The building should always keep itself at the good condition and should be able to keep the people inside comfortable.

Group B Intelligent Building Definition

Intelligent Buildings:

A structure that uses technology to respond to its environment and enhance the performance of a building.

Group D's Definition of Intelligent Building(s)

Group D defines an "Intelligent Building" as either the design or construction of the built environment that is aided by using technological advancements to better  sense changes in safety and quality of life of those occupying the building before humans can, as well as create systems that function in practical, efficient, sustainable, and cost-effective manners. 

Group A Intelligent Building Defintion

Intelligent Building

Use of computer technology to follow the progress from design to construction for a project.  It can keep track of the features within the building for both client and drafter.  Allows for easy interaction between various disciplines.  Combines various systems such as HVAC, structural, architectural, etc.  



This definition was created by combining the minds of Stephen Bartal, Phil Brubaker, Matt Morimoto, Michael Kilgallon, and Esther Ninshuti.

Group C: Intelligent Building Definition

Intelligent Building - Using various technologies to maximize the efficiency of all stages of a building's life cycle, including Design, Construction, Use, Renovation, and Demolition.  The building should be able to take readings from its environment and communicate the data to its occupants and other interested parties.
